General Description

The Multicycle circulating valve(MCCV) is an annulus pressure operated reclosable circulating valve. This tool isoperated by repeatedly cycling the annulus pressure up to a predetermined amount and then releasing thepressure. This tool is designed to be run with a Downhole tester valve.

Multicycle Circulating Valve is acceptable for the full-opening formation testing in cased hole, oil tube tradition perforation, tube string testing and cycle operation in the conjunction of perforation and full-opening formation testing. It overcomes the shortcomings of some other circulating valve, at a certain position, can use the annulus pressure to operate other tools many times and there is no influence upon the Multicycle Circulating valve. Because of the ability of opening and closing the well many times, it can carry on acidification and fracturing etc. other well simulations in the end of the full-opening formation test. Using the valve can make the test program simple and reduce the reconnoitering cost greatly.

Operating Procedure

1. Making up the tools:

a) Do not place any tongs on the service breaks. All fine thread connections should be made up tothe catwalk with a 36 in. pipe wrench with a cheater bar.

b) Do not connect any additional tools on the OMNI valve that would make it over 30 ft long.

c) An RD Safety Circulating valve,  can be run directly above the MCCV valve and can be made up on catwalk in that fashion.

2. Running in the hole information:

a) The speed at which the MCCV valve is run is not critical.

b) If no other tools in the string require the string to be run in slowly like the downhole Tester valve, the MCCV valve can be run in the hole at a speed requested by the customer involved, which should be a safe maximum speed.

3. Effect of partially pulling out of the hole for various reasons:

a) Unless the string is at or near total depth, partially pulling the string should not affect the tool.

b) If at total depth and the string needs to be partially pulled, it is important for the operator to be aware that this operation may cycle the tool. The string must be pulled several hundred feet before it will cycle the tool.

4. Making up the chart recorder

a) A chart recorder should be used to monitor the annular pressure on every MCCV valve job.

b) This will help to keep a record of the applied number of cycles to the tool.

c) This also safeguards the testers from unusual or irregular pressure increases that he may not have been aware of
